Introduction

Bookshop is a business model where our customers sell third-party content taken from our marketplace.

Bookshop Enablement

The Bookshop feature is enabled for Enterprise and Growth plans and it can be added to other plans.

Check more information in this documentation: [Bookshop Enablement](Bookshop enablement.md).

Sales Fees Distribution

The content owner and bookshops have special fees, different from the regular plans (Enterprise, Growth, and Starter).

The fees are negotiated deal by deal, although there is a default fee for regular deals.

More information about fees and how to set them: [Sales Fees Distribution](Sales fees distribution.md).

Content Availability

Find a detailed guide about the different ways to upload the content to the marketplace: [Content Availability](Content Availability.md).

Content Permissions: Block and Allow Lists

Publica.la can set which tenant can access the content of a particular content owner.

Check how to set permissions and how it works: [Block and Allow Lists](Block and Allow lists.md).

Withdraw Content

As content in the Marketplace can be added to a specific bookshop, it can also be withdrawn.

There are specific situations to take into account, especially for content already purchased.

See this document with more information: [Withdrawing Content](Withdrawing content.md).

Marketplace Dashboard

The Marketplace dashboard is the place where bookshops can add new content from the Marketplace to their inventory.

Unified Marketplace & Bookshop Glossary

This section provides standardized definitions for all marketplace and bookshop-related terminology used throughout our documentation.

Core Concepts

Marketplace: The platform where content owners upload and share their digital publications for distribution by other stores in the Publica.la network. The marketplace serves as a centralized catalog where bookshops can discover and acquire content to sell.

Bookshop: A business model and feature that allows tenants to sell third-party content acquired from the marketplace through their Publica.la store. Bookshops may exclusively or partially sell content from other content owners in the Publica.la network.

Content Owner: A tenant who owns and originally uploaded content to the Publica.la platform. Content owners can choose to make their publications available in the marketplace for other stores to sell.

Business Model Terms

Content Owner Discount: The percentage of the sale price that content owners offer to bookshops for selling their content. This percentage is distributed between Publica.la and the bookshop according to revenue sharing agreements.

Publica.la Fee: The commission Publica.la receives when a bookshop sells a publication from the marketplace. This fee is calculated on the gross price (before taxes) and applies only to marketplace content sales.

Suggested Retail Price (SRP): The price paid by the end customer for a publication. For revenue distribution calculations, we typically use the net price after applicable taxes.

Licensing & Content Types

Owner License: The foundational license automatically assigned to content creators, identifying original ownership and enabling content sharing capabilities.

Retail License: The standard license for marketplace distribution, automatically assigned when bookshops acquire content from the marketplace. Enables individual sales with restrictions on core metadata editing.

Shared License: Used for direct content sharing between specific tenants outside the marketplace system. Allows recipient tenants to modify keywords and collections.

Operational Terms

Taking Content: The process by which bookshops acquire publications from the marketplace to add to their inventory for sale.

Withdrawal: Temporary removal of content from sales while preserving the ability to reactivate and maintaining all data relationships. Used for temporary unavailability.

Deletion: Permanent removal of content from a bookshop's inventory. Content data is archived and requires re-acquisition from marketplace if needed again.

Duplicate Resolution: The automatic system process that selects which version of duplicate content (same ISBN) to display in marketplace listings, typically favoring versions with better discount terms.

Marketplace Visibility: The computed availability of content in marketplace listings, determined by format requirements, license status, processing completion, and conflict resolution.

Access Control Terms

Block List: A permission setting that prevents specific bookshops from accessing content from a particular content owner.

Allow List: An exclusive permission setting where only specified bookshops can access content from a content owner. When active, all other bookshops are automatically blocked.

Feature Enablement: The process of activating bookshop functionality for tenants, typically available by default for Enterprise and Growth plans.

Technical Integration Terms

External ID: Unique identifier (typically ISBN) used to identify publications. Must be unique within each tenant but can be duplicated across different tenants.

Marketplace Dashboard: The user interface where bookshop administrators browse, filter, and acquire content from the marketplace for their inventory.

Nova Dashboard: Administrative interface used by Publica.la team members to manage marketplace content, permissions, and bookshop operations.
